ca-2014-ronin-morningstar
Ca. 2014 Ronin Morningstar

This guitar is the Ronin (brand) Morningstar (model) built by luthier Izzy Lugo when Ronin was still around. Izzy designs all his proprietary pickups to be hum-cancelling, and these Speedster pickups have a single coil vibe - although higher output - and sit somewhere between a strat and a P90. The grey-top editions in this Morningstar were a limited run and no longer available, though their performance and design is the same as the current models. The body of this Morningstar is made from Izzy's stash of hand-selected old growth redwood. The guitar is medium weight and is kind of a beefier 'strat on steroids' with the traditional 5-position switch.

See that mini-switch? It's affectionately referred to as 'The Magic Button': - this activates a harp transducer embedded inside the guitar - sending it to the jack where its signal JOINS the signal of the magnetic pickups (in whatever position setting they're on). These systems phase against each other and the balance between the magnetic Speedster pickups and this harp transducer can be manipulated via the volume pot. Turn the volume down, and the amp up, and you can get an almost acoustic dobro sound. Many minute shades can be dialed in by micro-turns in the volume pot. It can be really special with OD and Fuzz, as the acoustic eq of the harp transducer bumps the high frequencies at the transient when leaned into overdrive and distortion. And of course you guitar body becomes lively and microphonic - feedback effects can be achieved, etc... Each Magic Button is different in the sense that Fishman's transducers are variable. No two sound the same. The GREAT NEWS is this is one of the best sounding Magic Buttons I've played in Izzy's guitars. The connoisseur would swoon to know this.

The volume pot has a 'treble bleed' cap, so there's no high end loss on the magnetic pickups as you turn them down to 'clean up' in front of the amp. It's the same tone, only quieter.

The neck speedster will get you that creamy Hendrix-y strat thing. Positions 2 & 4 will quack and give you that bell-like timbre you love but with more output, and the bridge Speedster has none of the anemic quality strats often do. It leans more towards a P90. Beefier and not strident, but, again, quiet!

The vibrato system is a John Mann 2-pt, floating set for a smooth fluid motion, and the mass of that block has wonderful tonal qualities.

Priced for the limited-edition Speedsters and superior functionality and Magic Button. As Morningstars go, this one is special.

Highest grade caps and parts throughout.

Sold w/ gig bag
